Sister Speak made its debut in the ’90s amidst the growing popularity of “zines.”
What makes a zine different from a magazine? They’re usually distributed in much smaller quantities, often among friends, and have very specific focuses. Sister Speak is a feminist zine that promotes inclusivity & intersectionality. Dr. Thompson is our faculty adviser, but our zine is run by JMU students who produce one magazine every semester and who visit the Richmond Zine Fest each year. If any of this sounds like fun to you, check out this page to learn about our club. Or, feel free to submit your art, literature (under 1500 words), photography, or other works at any time. We will review them each semester and send our favorites to print.
COMING SOON on 02/01/20: Sister Speak archives dating back to Vol. 1!
